“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37-38)
Among the mountains of Andhra Pradesh, India, lives a tribe of people who dream of having good, clean water for their families someday. In addition, they are also an unreached tribe of people, most of whom have never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In the meantime, they get water for drinking and washing where it can be found. For some, it’s a matter of walking up and down hills to a pond where they can fill their metal jugs and return home with it, carrying the load on their heads. Some people (women & children) have to walk from 2 to 5 miles for a jug of water. One jug holds 15 liters or about 4 gallons. It would be like carrying four gallons of milk for us in the U.S.
Can you imagine waking up each morning and before taking care of cooking, personal needs, etc., you may not have enough water left in a jug for that morning? The only solution is to walk until you find it or maybe a mile or two to a lake, a pond, or a puddle. There you fill the jug with muddy water and carry it back home. You don’t know how many animals have previously quenched their thirst from it, how many have walked in it, and some lying in it to cool off from the sun’s heat. But that’s not important to you because you have water and can live another day.
This ministry is committed to helping the people of the Bonda tribe. There are so many needs that knowing where to begin is hard. They need the Gospel for their spiritual life but water is essential to life and they need help digging wells so they can have fresh water close by and don’t have to walk miles looking for it.
Depending on the distance, etc., to professionally dig a well costs between $1500 and $2000. Can you help us help them? If so, please give what you can but if you cannot give financially, please pray for these people and we thank you in advance.
