He Is Risen!

Matthew 28:1-6 (NKJV) "Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.  His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.   And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.   But the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that ...

Val’s Blog

Old-time prospectors would spend years digging for gold with a pickaxe and in more recent times, men are using heavy machinery for the same purpose and the same goal. To become rich. There is another "gold" that will make a man/woman even richer, although spiritual, and that is in the Word of God and you won't even get your hands dirty by digging. Join Val in digging for "golden nuggets" found throughout the Bible. Here's the link:  Val's Blog ...

“When He Sees The Blood . . . . ” Exodus 12:22

An article by Val Black There is a saying about the Bible that goes like this, “The new in the old concealed, the old in the new revealed”.   That may not make sense to someone reading it for the first time but it’s talking about the two divisions of the Bible, the Old Testament, and the New Testament.   There are prophecies in the Old Testament that are hidden or concealed, but with careful study, they are fulfilled, or revealed, in the New Testament. Some of the things that are hidden in the Old Testament are known as “types”, meaning a ...

70 TIMES 7

by Val Black When Peter asked Jesus how many times we should forgive others for their offenses, Jesus replied, "70 times 7". (Matthew 18:22) In other words, God doesn't put a limitation to our forgiveness of others. But where did Jesus come up with the number, "70 times 7"? It wasn't done arbitrarily by Jesus but actually done intentionally.   In order to understand the reason why Jesus used that particular number, a look into the Old Testament book of Genesis will provide an answer. In Genesis, chapter 4, we read of Cain, one of two sons of Adam and Eve, ...

A Christian’s New Year’s Resolution: To Witness

Sometimes in the life of a Christian, a person comes along to whom it seems practically impossible to explain the love of God in such a way as to convince that person to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  It could be a lifetime friend, a sibling, a husband or wife, or any number of people who have become so set in their "ways of the world" the thought of changing their lifestyle is unthinkable.   To them, although lacking in spiritual aspects, life is good.  Materially speaking, they have most of what they want, but always lacking and wanting ...

The Three Gifts of the Wise Men

Matthew 2:1-2, “Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him." (NKJV) Matthew 2:11 “And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”  (NKJV) Most people are ...

Forgiving AND Forgetting

“I'll forgive, but I'll NEVER forget"    Does that sound familiar?  You may have heard that said by someone or maybe you have said it yourself.  When others say or do something to hurt someone, either physically, verbally, mentally, or sexually, that person is inclined to engrave the offense in the back of their minds, even after announcing forgiveness. How does God feel about such a situation and what may the consequences be if we do forgive but never forget?   Or, would there be any consequences?  After all, isn’t God a loving God?  Doesn’t God know our hearts and understands ...

One Flesh

By Val Black A verse of scripture that is sometimes taken out of context and used to implement a married life of domination of a husband over his wife is Ephesians 5:22-23 which states, "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body." My wife and I once had as friends a married couple in which the husband, a former pastor, used the above scripture to justify verbal and light physical abuse of the ...

Are you ready for some good news?  On the morning of July 3, 2018 the team traveled to Akim Achiase (located at South Birim District in the Eastern Region of Ghana).  About 300 tracts were shared and the Gospel of Jesus Christ was preached.  When the Gospel is shared, good things are bound to happen!  It was reported that 73 people gave their lives to Jesus on that day.  That's not just good news...that's great news! It’s From The Heart

IT'S FROM THE HEART  by Val Black God isn't impressed with our good works unless it is from the heart, a heart that desires to return the love He has for us. It must have been confusing to the people of Israel when they were being taught they were doing the right thing by men respected because of their "higher learning" of the scriptures.  They did the sacrificing of animals as prescribed in scripture but their hearts were far from the intention God had in asking them to perform them.  Every sacrifice made should have asked the question, "Isn't there a ...

Redemption Revealed Through A Worm

By Val Black Every year Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a miracle proving Jesus, as the Son of God, had authority over life and death.  But before the resurrection, there was His death and one of the most amazing things in the Bible is how His death was prophesied so many years before His birth.  Perhaps the strangest of all prophecies of the death of Jesus was in the Old Testament where He was depicted as a “worm”.  That may be a shocker to you but let’s look into it and I think you will be greatly blessed once ...

Let Your Light Shine

Let Your Light Shine by Val Black Matthew 5:16:  "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Sometimes changing one simple word in a verse of scripture can help us understand a deeper meaning.  I'm not suggesting we add or detract anything from the Word of God, but instead would suggest we regard it from a different point of view to help us understand the true meaning. Regarding the above scripture, consider the first word, "Let".  A simple definition of "let" is to, "consent to, permit, to give ...

A Word From Val Black

Have you ever wondered how God could have commanded Joshua, as the leader of the Children of Israel when they were entering Canaan, to kill all of the inhabitants of that region? The key to understanding His instructions is knowing who those people were and what they were like. They were known as Canaanites, but there were also other cultures such as the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. A common god worshiped by all of these people was Bel, also known as, Baal and Beelzebub. Their religion consisted of sexual perversion, including bestiality, self-mutilation, drunkenness and worst of ...

The Word Made Flesh

A note from Val Black: Days of Praise has been a favorite monthly devotional of mine for many years.  The articles by the late Dr. Henry M. Morris are exceptional.  Below is one example. The Word Made Flesh by Henry M. Morris, Ph.D. Evidence for Creation “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14) This is the definitive verse on the divine incarnation, when “God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself” (2 Corinthians 5:19), and ...

The Caleb Spirit

by Val Black When asked by a newspaper reporter if he had lived in Maine all of his life, the 90 plus man replied, “Not yet”. Every senior should have the same attitude. The older I get the more I like to think about Caleb in the Old Testament. Joshua and Caleb were the only two left of the original group of the Children of Israel that left Egypt for the Promised Land. When it was time to divide up the land, Joshua asked Caleb what part he wanted. Caleb answered: "Today I am eighty-five years old. I am as ...
